Q How long will my reception last?
A Receptions are four hours long. The first hour is considered your cocktail and hors d'oeuvres hour and the second hour is your dinner hour. Hours three and four allow time for traditional activities such as cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc. - All the fun stuf
Q Can I extend my reception?
A To extend your four-hour reception, a fifth hour can be purchased at a rate of $8.00 per person for a full bar and $5.50 per person for a non-alcoholic bar (applicable tax and taxable service charge additional). The additional hour is subject to availability.
Q How much time is allowed prior to event time for set-up?
A In almost all cases you would have access two hours prior to event start-time. Additional Fees would apply for additional time - inquire with your Catering Account Executive!
Q Who will cater my reception?
A We provide all catering on-site. We are generally unable to accommodate catering by outside vendors due to limited space availability. Occasionally, we have some off-peak or short-term availability. Check with a Catering Account Executive for specific availability. If your event will require special culinary considerations (i.e. kosher meals), please speak with your Catering Account Executive to make accommodations.
Q Is there a children's menu available?
A Guests ages 3 through 11 are served the same meal as adults at 50% the adult menu price. If you choose to include your vendors in the count (DJ, Band, Photographer, Videographer), they are also at half price.
Q Who provides my wedding cake?
A Our wedding cakes are prepared by The Cake Studio. Please contact Debi Fleury at 410-206-3714 for an appointment once you have signed your wedding contract with Turf Valley. When your decision is made, you are set. We coordinate final count and delivery. Any additional cost per cake above your package rate due to upgrades would be paid directly to the bakery
Q Is there a fee to slice the Wedding Cake?
A Cutting the cake is a complimentary service with our Wedding Packages. After the ceremonial cut takes place, our staff will remove it to the back of the house and cut the remainder. We will then serve it to your guests or if you have a variety of flavors, display it so they may choose what they would like.
Q What will the staff to guest ratio be at my reception?
A There are five servers per the first 100 guests and one server per each additional 25 guests thereafter. There is one bartender for every 100 guests. (For example, if you have 150 guests, you will have two bartenders.)
Q What is the role of the Maitre D'?
A The Maitre D' is your Turf Valley contact the day of the event. The Maitre D' is in charge of following through on the timing of the event schedule, overseeing the staff, making sure the food is hot and working with the vendors.
Q Do you offer indoor and outdoor reception areas?
A Turf Valley offers a number of ballrooms in varying sizes to accommodate your reception. We do not offer outdoor cocktail/reception areas.
Q What type of chairs will be provided for my reception room?
A Turf Valley Resort provides comfortable standard banquet chairs that are room specific. If you would prefer rental chairs, you may rent them on your own through an outside vendor. Placement and removal is not a service provided by Turf Valley Resort and, therefore, must be coordinated with the vendor. Chair covers and sashes are available as a part of the "Diamond Upgrade," at $4.00 per person. Ask your Catering Account Executive or the Catering Sales Assistant for more information!
Q Can I hold my wedding ceremony at Turf Valley?
A We would love to host your ceremony! Turf Valley offers both indoor and outdoor ceremony space in conjunction with your reception. For outdoor ceremonies, we have The Garden which can accommodate 240 guests. Your ceremony time will be 1 hour, including guest arrival and ceremony time. The indoor ceremony fee is $1,000.00, and the outdoor ceremony fee is $1,300.00. This fee is for rental of space and set-up of the chairs, as well as a rehearsal time, which is to be determined 30 days prior to the event date. In the event of inclement weather, we provide an indoor option for your ceremony at no additional charge. If you would like assistance planning and overseeing your ceremony, please see our list of preferred vendors for a Wedding Consultant, as Turf Valley does not provide these services.
Q Can my flower girl toss petals along the aisle?
A Throwing real flower petals is fine for an outdoor ceremony (if indoors, please have an aisle runner to do this) Silk petals, bird seed and rice may cause a hazard and are not permitted.
Q Is it possible to include our dog at the outdoor ceremony?
A Yes - we are happy to accommodate with prior notice. In addition, the dog must be controlled at all times, does not enter the facility (unless in designated hotel room) and would be removed promptly following the conclusion of the ceremony
Q When can I tour the ballrooms and the Resort?
A We would love the opportunity to show you Turf Valley! Please call our Sales Office or your Catering Account Executive at 410-465-1200 for more information. We are available for advance appointments Monday through Saturday.
Q Can my guests staying at the hotel receive a special overnight rate?
A Your Catering Account Executive can give you details about hotel rooms. We will offer a special rate for your group based on the actual event date. This rate will be honored - upon availability - through the event date. Since the rate is upon availability, it is important that guests call to make reservations in advance. We are happy to contract hotel rooms for your event to guarantee availability. Contact your Catering Account Executive to discuss this option!
Q Can I check in to my guest room early on the day of the wedding?
A Check-in time is 4:00 pm and check-out time is 12:00 noon. Requests for early check-in will be considered on the day of arrival only and will be granted on an availability basis.
Q What is included in my reception package price?
A Each package includes a four-hour open bar, hors d'oeuvres, champagne toast, wedding cake, linens (white 90" square cloth only), napkins, banquet chairs, and an overnight stay for the newlyweds on their wedding night, as well as on their First Anniversary. Please see our Bridal Packages section for specific meal and bar options.
Q Are there any charges or fees in addition to my reception package pricing?
A A taxable service charge of 21% and Maryland State Sales Tax of 6% on Food and 9% on Alcohol is not included in the package pricing. As applicable, room rental for the Waterford Ballroom, Cameo Ballroom, and ceremony fee are additional, as well.
Q Is gratuity included in the Taxable Service Charge?
A The labor cost is not a gratuity. It is used to pay our staff wages. Often our clients do present tips for outstanding service. Any voluntary tips that you choose to offer in addition are very much appreciated.
Q When are payments due?
A Your initial, non-refundable deposit is due with signed contract. Your final payment and guest count will be due 10 business days before your event.
Q May we take our engagement photos at Turf Valley?
A We are happy to be the backdrop for your engagement photos! Check with our Catering Sales Assistant Courtney Mack, 410-203-2760 to coordinate.
Q Are sparklers permitted?
A Yes - sparklers are allowed outdoors.
Q Does Turf Valley Recycle?
A Turf Valley is a Green Leader on Trip Advisor at the Bronze level. Also of note, Turf Valley utilizes Veterans Composting. Veterans Composting operates the only permitted commercial food scrap composting facility in Maryland. In just 8 weeks, food scraps from Turf Valley are turned into organic compost. The compost is used from Northern Virginia to Philadelphia by farmers and gardeners to grow new plants. In a typical year, Turf Valley composts more than 120,000 lbs of food scraps. Diverting that material to composting saves as much CO2 as planting 1,500 trees or taking 12 cars off the road.
