Spring weddings: why it's the best season for a wedding

By: Turf Valley Resort / 26 Apr 2016
After a long and harsh winter, spring has finally emerged to bring some warmth and green into our lives! And with spring arrives a beautiful backdrop to your dream wedding. Turf Valley's Director of Catering, Jenny Betlejewski, shares some ideas as to why spring is the perfect season for you to have your wedding.

"Spring – when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of love!" (Alfred, Lord Tennyson) The time of year overflows with newness, rebirth and weddings.

Attire

It's a romantic time of year and with its warmer days are dress styles that have organza, chiffon, off-the-shoulder treatments or touches of lace. Grooms can be seen in khaki suits with playful bowties.

Colors

Colors are fresh – consider concentrating on one specific color or a color combination of muted shades such as Robin's Egg Blue, Daffodil Yellow, Nectarine (with a mixture of peach and pink shades), or a Soft Mint Green.

Floral

With the change in the season from snow to budding trees and shrubs, more flower choices are readily available. Tulips, daffodils, lilacs, and lilies of the valley all ring in the beginning of the season, as well as peonies and cherry blossoms.

Centerpieces can consist of containers of fresh grass with bows tied around them mixed with bud vases of nosegays or pots of daffodils and other bulbs– you might consider decorating with baskets for the flowers, or using eggs as place cards or to contain favors for a whimsical touch!

Use paper for the invitations, place cards or menu cards that are embedded with seeds – it doubles as a favor guests can plant when they get home.

Food Selection

Even your food could contain flowers with edible pansies for spice in your first course salad. Some other selections you might consider that capture the season: Bruschetta with Smashed Fava Beans, Seasonal Salad with Mixed Greens, Blueberries, Julienne Carrots and Blueberry Vinaigrette, Spring Peas with Pancetta, Roasted Vegetable Frittata, Deviled Eggs with Ham Mediterranean Roasted Lamb with Fennel and Baby Carrots, and Roasted Artichokes with Prosciutto. Since the days are suddenly longer, consider a brunch wedding - perhaps on a Sunday- after the event you can still gather with friends and family afterwards or start a honeymoon a littler earlier :)

While spring is definitely a highly sought after time of year for weddings and other celebrations as well, consider a Friday, Sunday or even another weekday to make it more affordable for you!
