What made you choose Turf Valley Resort as your venue?
We loved the idea of an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception, both of which TV has. The Garden is beautiful with the trees, flowers, and the fountain in the background. Also, since most of our guests were from out of town, the fact that TV has hotel rooms on-site was a big factor in our decision. In addition, the food is always so delicious when we've visited in the past and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. It was a no brainer to choose TV!
What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day?
The whole wedding day was magical – how can we pick just one memory! We had a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in our hospitality suite earlier in the day so that was very special to us and our families.
A funny memory would be the cicadas. We booked our wedding in January of 2020 for a June 2021 wedding – who knew the cicadas would be in town?! Fortunately, they didn't bother us - it was just kind of loud during the ceremony but that didn't stop us!
Did you have any wedding must-haves that had to be part of your special day?
Must have – steak and crab cake as our reception entree. We had to show all the out-of-town guests what Maryland is all about! Everyone loved the meal, especially the generously sized portion of crab cake!
Must have – ONYX as our wedding band! We have a dear friend who is a band member and made it so much more special.
Did anything change with the wedding/reception because of the pandemic?
We originally booked the Cameo Room in January 2020, before the pandemic was even a thought. Fast forward to over a year later, we ended up switching to the Grand Ballroom for the larger space and our anticipated headcount was reduced from 250 to 170 people attending. It was a great move to the Grand Ballroom – large open area and everyone was able to be in the same room and not feel like they were packed in. Other than that, everything else went pretty much as planned. We were so lucky that Maryland lifted the mask mandate three weeks before our wedding day. Thank you, Turf Valley!
