The two older willow trees, which had reached the end of their life cycle, were recently removed. In the coming month, two new willow trees will be planted in their place. These new trees are approximately 25 feet tall and are similar in size to the willow planted last spring.
We look forward to the arrival of spring, when the garden comes to life with blooming shrubs, plants, and spring flowers.
Upcoming Changes - Early 2026
Beginning in early 2026, two older willow trees that have reached the end of their lifecycle will be removed. In their place, two new willow trees will be planted, each approximately twenty-five feet tall and similar in size to the willow planted last February.
The Garden remains a vibrant, living space meticulously maintained by our horticulturist and dedicated grounds team. A diverse array of native trees, shrubs, and plants, chosen for their color and adaptability, will continue to thrive and provide seasonal beauty year-round.
We recently planted a new willow tree that is 25 feet tall. This young tree will bring the same grace and elegance to the Garden, in addition to other decorative trees, shrubs and flowers. In addition, the entire garden area has been resodded.
We have determined after this past growing season that we will no longer eliminate all the willow trees. We have been working with tree specialists and landscape designers to formulate a comprehensive strategy to "plant for the future."
Based on their suggestions, we will retain one existing willow on each side of the Pergola in hopes they will continue to prosper. The two willows in the center have already been removed. (see pictures below)
In the Spring, we will plant one additional willow tree, 25 feet tall, at a date determined by the best time to plant. We will be aerating and seeding the grassy area of the Garden which will have a white landscaping cloth on it over the winter.
